Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships

The objective of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF) Program is to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally, to develop their leadership potential and to position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow, positively contributing to Canada's economic, social and research-based growth through a research-intensive career. Canadian and international students are eligible to apply for a Banting PDF, which is valued at $70,000 per year (taxable) for two years.

The scholarships are administered by Canada's three federal granting agencies:
Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

An applicant's application to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program must be completed in full collaboration with the proposed host institution. Without exception, Banting PDFs are tenable ONLY at the institution that supported the original application for the program.

ADJUDICATION PROCESS

Applications will be reviewed by the Associate Provost of Graduate Studies and the Faculty Associate Deans of Graduate Studies. Institutions are not provided with a quota on the number of fellowships it can host. However, institutions will be highly strategic about the applications they do support and will limit the number of applicants they endorse given the limited number of fellowships to be awarded annually and the rigour of the selection process. The Graduate Studies Office will coordinate a letter of endorsement for those applicants the University decides to support. The letter of endorsement will be provided to the applicant for uploading to their application on ResearchNet.
